PHILOSOPHY
Thomas Wolfe once said "You cant go home again,"
but artist and writer Cynthia Munson proves that there is always
an exception to the rule. Munson has spent years of her adult life
recreating history through her art, specifically in oil painting
and short stories. Memories of growing up in Hills, Minnesota, a
small farming community near the South Dakota border, have become
the fodder for her artistic creations.
Utilizing an impressionistic style in both painting and writing,
Munson allows readers and viewers to not only see the tragedy and
comedy of the stories she tells through her art, but also to understand
how history shapes us and cannot be discarded. In her preface to
"Sparkles, Spatters and other Private Matters", Munson
dedicates the short story collection to this idea, to those "whose
memory still sleeps wherever it is within me that memories sleep."
